3 nights (Aswan → Luxor) covers every major temple and is the most booked. 4 nights (Luxor → Aswan) adds a full extra day on the river and a slower pace. Both include the same sights.
It depends on your flights and your Cairo days. Starting in Aswan lets you add Abu Simbel first; starting in Luxor works well straight after a sleeper train or a morning flight from Cairo.
October to April is peak season with mild days. May to September is hot but much cheaper — prices on this page are low-season rates. Christmas, New Year and Easter carry a 25% surcharge.
Full board, all temple visits with an Egyptologist, entrance fees, transfers to and from the ship, taxes and service. Drinks, tips and optional excursions (Abu Simbel, hot-air balloon) are extra.
