These tourist hubs are well-secured and regularly patrolled by tourism police. While Egypt is a large and diverse country, some regions like Northern Sinai and remote parts of the Western Desert remain restricted due to safety concerns. We closely monitor all developments and tailor your itinerary to avoid any areas under advisories.
Solo and female travelers are welcomed in Egypt and often find the experience incredibly enriching. That said, we recommend exercising a bit more caution than you might at home — dress modestly, avoid isolated areas at night, and be wary of overly friendly strangers. Most travelers visiting Egypt will need a tourist visa, which is easy to obtain and fairly straightforward. The standard visa costs $25 USD and is valid for 30 days. Many nationalities can get it on arrival or apply online in advance through the official e-Visa portal.
The local currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP), but U.S. dollars are also widely accepted in tourist areas. Cash is king — especially at markets, small shops, and for tips. Cards are accepted at hotels, larger restaurants and on Nile cruises.
Tipping — known locally as baksheesh — is a well-established part of Egyptian culture and a gesture of appreciation for service. For small tasks like carrying bags or restroom service, 2–5 EGP is typical. In restaurants, 10–15% is standard. Your guide can advise on appropriate amounts for drivers and cruise staff.
